William Chaundy was transported to Australia in 1847, for stealing from the mail, two ten pound notes, whilst working as a letter carrier. He travelled to Melbourne on the Eden in 1847, arriving as an exile after a pardon. In 1850 his wife Rachel and their eight remaining children sailed on the Ramilies.

Richard John Chaundy brought the first steam plough from England to Australia for use by the Chaffey Brothers in Echuca. Not liking the climate of northern Victoria, he too moved to the Melbourne area, where he married and had a family.
Several other Chaundys have since emigrated to Australia.
